Entrepreneurs often find themselves trapped in a cycle of evaluating opportunities solely on their existing knowledge and the environment they have encountered. Learn how to use creative problem-solving to break free from your thinking process to broaden your perspectives.

"The process of becoming unstuck requires tremendous bravery, as it essentially involves a complete shift in our perception of reality."

Pema Chodron

Don’t we all wish the stream of fresh and creative ideas to never stop and to identify when a new opportunity arises? But here is the problem! Our minds are accustomed to processing pre-existing information from our experiences and existing knowledge. Every time a new opportunity represents itself to us, we perceive it from our existing perspective. Here's an example: if a child experiences an attack by a dog, this event will shape his perception of dogs in the future. From then on, every time he has an encounter with a dog, he is going to be fearful and assume all dogs are dangerous. Although, from a third-person perspective, his fears are baseless because dogs can behave in a number of ways towards humans, They can be fun to play with, friendly, and protective, or they can be hostile and dangerous. However, the child's experience with the dog limited his perception and prevented him from exploring the possibilities of having a dog as a pet.

This also holds true for adults. Our experiences shape our patterns, enabling us to play safely by adhering to the rules and thinking approaches we have established for ourselves. This also applies to how we conduct business. To learn the new, we must unlearn our fears.

Entrepreneurs often find themselves in a bind when they assess opportunities solely on their existing knowledge and the environment they have encountered. This approach restricts the potential for creativity and unconventional thinking. In today's article, we will explore the idea of becoming unstuck in the thinking process to expand our thinking horizons.

Embrace a Different Perspective

Generally, most businesses follow industrial norms in their business models. This leaves minimal space for novelty. Work on a strategy for how you can provide a service to your market segment that is not available in the existing market. For example, if the market norm is to sell directly to customers, consider what subscription models you can offer to your market segment.

Furthermore, cross-industry innovation also helps generate out-of-the-box ideas. You can adapt and incorporate a trend from a different market into your own business segment. The bottom line is that getting out of the loop on what's familiar is not an easy task, and while implementing new ideas, you must use proper risk management for safety measures. Shifting your perspective requires research, open-mindedness, and risk assessment, all of which you should be willing to invest time in to get positive results.

Embrace Global Thinking

When you're looking at industry trends, broaden your perspective by analyzing global market trends. This aids in utilizing information and trends that haven't yet reached your local market, which could potentially lead to groundbreaking industrial shifts.

For instance, consider Careem, a well-known transport booking service. It began operating in 2012 as a website-based service for corporate car bookings and evolved into a private car hire company, offering pick-up and delivery services as well as paying bills through their app.

Consider international markets early, and adapt services and trends to fit different cultural contexts. One of the best ways to broaden your talent pool is to hire multicultural talent remotely. This can broaden your thinking pool and increase creativity in your organization.

More often than not, businesses have many opportunities to expand multi-directionally; however, due to their limited perspectives, entrepreneurs often miss those opportunities.

Leverage Emerging Technology

In recent years, AI has made it a lot easier for businesses to engage with their customers, understand their needs, and predict market trends. Create personalized experiences for your customers using AI technology to stay on top of your game.

Create secure and easy-to-use payment methods, such as blockchain or secure transactions, to improve customers' transaction experiences. Leverage the technology for an enhanced and efficient customer experience.

  • Conduct studies to learn how you can use AI in your business platform.

  • Update your website regularly for an enhanced customer experience.

  • Research what AI tools can help your customers interact with your product better.

  • Gather customer feedback for continuous improvement and product innovation.

Collaborative Ventures

Form alliances with other businesses to co-create products or expand market reach. These collaborations can provide excellent opportunities for your organization and business partners to learn and grow their businesses. Furthermore, collaborative ventures allow partners to share project costs, thereby reducing their financial burden.

Work with local communities to solve specific problems, which can lead to new business opportunities. Create sustainable products and solutions that are environmentally friendly or have a reduced environmental impact. This can help your organization differentiate itself from others.

Thinking creatively extends beyond your pre-existing thought patterns. As explained earlier in the example of a child's interaction with the dog, your existing thought patterns are a result of your experiences and keep you limited in your thinking. To think creatively, view every opportunity as a fresh start. Our growth always occurs outside of our comfort zone, and we must be willing to step outside of the psychological safety net we have created for ourselves in order to avoid the pain of failure.
