Discovering Your Path to Your Best Life: Practical Advice, tips, and Insights

“We are here to add what we can to life, not to get what we can from life.” - William Osler.

Consider waking up one morning and discovering that you only have one month to live. How would you live that month? What are the things you would do? How would you connect with your loved ones? What items will you check off your bucket list?

Of course, you can view this pessimistically and worry about what will happen after you are gone, like you have been living so far, or you can take this opportunity to actually live your life and do things you have been putting off.

We live most of our lives working towards our goals, worrying about the things and relationships we don’t have, the could haves, the would haves, and regrets of what ifs. We often miss the point that we are born to experience life rather than making it a series of misery. If you look closely, life is made of the good and the bad. No one has it all; with some level of variation, we all have our struggles and our rewards. The good comes with the bad, and that’s what life is. Take the example of Britney Spears and Jim Carrey, these two famous Hollywood stars who apparently have the career, wealth, and lifestyle most of us can only dream of. Seeing them on the screen, not knowing their history, you would think that these two are the luckiest people alive with their fame and lifestyle, but after learning about their struggles, you will realize that they are no different than you as a human being experiencing life.

You must decide now if you will keep struggling in your life or if you will make the most of the resources given to you and live the best life possible? Here are some tips -

Focus on What You Have

Growth is the most fundamental process of human development. If you are not evolving, you are not living. However, the struggle for growth becomes misery when you are laser-focused on the goals and forget to cherish what you have. In fact, growth is a journey, and it becomes easier when you are mindful of what you already have and are grateful for your blessings.

Learn to cherish your achievements, your little or big moments. You will get to where you aspire to be. But don’t lose sight of your blessings in pursuing goals. Be mindful of your journey and how far you have come.

Be appreciative of your life, the people around you, and their support.

Do More of What Makes You Happy

Take time to recharge your batteries. Do more of what makes you happy and less of what drains your energy. When you fill your life with actions that energize you, it elevates your energy on a metaphysical level and boosts your serotonin on a physical level. This results in a happier, healthier, and a more positive “you.”

Value your connections and invest your time and energy in the relationships you care about. Connect with people, exchange energy, learn new things, and have meaningful conversations. Recharge your soul.

“The saddest tragedies of all - the wasted life.” - Aristotle

It’s true because every breath that you take is a blessing. You are living on borrowed time and must make the most of it.

Give Your Best to Everything You Do

Don’t merely live on the surface. Dive deeper into your life and get involved with what you do. Whether it’s your work, your relationships, or a hobby. Be 100% involved in everything you do.

This creates a more profound sense of fulfillment and accomplishment within yourself.

Learn to compartmentalize your life. Sometimes, people deprive themselves of being the best version of themselves simply because they are not focused or focused on too many things at once. Carrying their work to home, taking their personal problems to work, or sometimes bringing either or both to leisure and recreational activities. This does no good, neither are you able to solve your problems under this mindset nor are you allowed to be creative or connected to your environment.

When you give your 100% to something, the distractions fall away. You excel at what you do with your undivided attention, and the process becomes pleasurable.

Live Your Bucket List

Everyone has aspirations. What are yours? If you haven’t made your list yet, make your bucket list now. You shouldn’t have to wait to live your dreams. Financial feasibility and time restrictions can play a considerable part; therefore, you should work on having plans to check off things from your bucket list. Don’t wait for life to drastically change to live your dreams.

“10 years ago, when I was 25 years old, I had this biggest dream: to attend my favorite musician’s concert in Europe. I kept putting it off due to budget constraints and thinking one day, I would go when I would have enough financial freedom.

However, I have been financially steady for the past 7 years. I have been to Europe at least 20 times or more since then, but I never got to attend the concert because of other reasons. And now, I don’t have the time or energy for it. Plus, my music taste has also evolved”.

If I had planned to attend that concert, saved up for it 10 years ago, and had gone for it in a year or two, it would have been a fantastic experience and a thing off my bucket list, not a missed experience.

Don’t wait for the right time to come. The right time is now! Life passes by very quickly, we grow and become a different version of ourselves, a more evolved one. Every stage of our life requires a different version of ourselves. If you have an aspiration that pulls your heart and makes you feel alive, don’t wait on it.

Life is too short, make the most of it. You don’t know when your last day is. Live the way you want to live.
